I think that the best way to deal with ...Anonymous<br /><br />I think that the best way to deal with a passive communicater is by being assertive and clearly stating what it is that you want/need/feel. Through your assertiveness and show of respect, the passive person may begin to feel more comfortable and they in turn may learn to trust you and thus they may become more open and assertive themselves. The thing to remember is that passive communicator usually has low self-esteem. They do not feel very comfortable expressing what they think or feel mainly because they are afraid that it won't make sense to people or that it may make other people angry. You therefore need to build confidence with that person before he/she begins to communicate openly. <br /><br />Encouragement, respect, understanding etc are things that help build self esteem.
